Vanessa graduated from the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks, ND with her Physical Therapy degree in 1989. She began her work in an acute care hospital serving both inpatients and outpatients. With a desire to travel, she moved to San Antonio, TX and worked at a large inpatient rehab hospital, The Rehabilitation Institute of San Antonio (RIOSA) where she became the team leader for those affected by traumatic brain injury. It was at RIOSA that she became interested in wheelchair seating and became part of the wheelchair seating team, assisting patients with their wheelchair and seating needs. She moved to Colorado Springs, CO with her husband in 1996 and has worked in a variety of settings including inpatient and outpatient rehab, sub-acute rehab and home health.
Vanessa joined the Life Wheels On team in 2018 and became a certified Assistive Technology Professional (ATP) in 2021. She approaches each person as an individual and works to meet their unique mobility goals. Vanessa enjoys the process of helping meet the mobility needs of her patients from the evaluation at the first visit, through the delivery and follow-up to ensure the equipment is meeting their needs.
When not using her PT skills, Vanessa enjoys being a wife, mom to her three kids, having coffee with friends, and all things outdoors- golfing, hiking, kayaking, Stand Up Paddle-boarding, and gardening. In February 2020, she combined her love of travelling with her PT knowledge and volunteered with an organization, Joni and Friends, in Sao Paulo Brazil providing donated wheelchairs to those in need of mobility equipment.
